New Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ SSL 26

The new Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ SSL26 SAT is a revolutionary system composed of photovoltaic modules which converts the sunlight into electric power. This energy is stored in a battery during the day and made available in night-time to power a sodium-vapour lamp, also thanks to the new intelligent charge regulator GESOLAR™ 15 SAT. This is the ideal answer when there is the need of lighting squares, streets, crossings and no available electric power grid nearby. The new Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ SSL26 SAT typically starts lighting after sunset and stops at sunrise automatically.

The new Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ SSL 26 SAT is provided of a revolutionary microprocessor designed using the innovative SAT technology, which adjusts intelligently the lighting hours of the lamp according to the state of charge of the batteries and economizing on the available energy in the system. This will lead the new Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ SSL 26 SAT to be lighting typically from sunset to sunrise, allowing a remarkable energy saving even during winter and assuring the maximum lighting of the site in the night-time just when there is a situation of main traffic.

According to the actual meteorological conditions, the new Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ SSL 26 SAT will be lighting typically from the sunset to the sunrise, except during prolonged bad weather in winter, when the lamp could be automatically switched off in the late night, in order to save precious energy for the next nights.

Thanks to the SAT advanced technology, the new Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ SSL 26 SAT assures the lighting of the site with a luminous flow of 3700lm, giving priority to the night-time main-traffic hours and in the early morning. Moreover, the new intelligent charge regulator GESOLAR™ 15 VSAT allows the Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ SSL 26 SAT to be switched on all night long during high isolation months as well as providing energy saving during the low isolation months.
The high power density of GESOLAR™ar Technology photovoltaic modules allows them to charge the battery occupying a very small area and making the system very efficient, nice to see and easy to install.

ECONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS

The installation of a traditional street light, whenever the electric power grid is not available nearby, implies high investment costs due to cable ducts, excavations, repacking of roads, crossing over already existing services, etc. The installation of the new Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ 26 SAT, on the contrary, is free from these problems as it is an independent energy source fast and easy to install.
Moreover, the GESOLAR™AR Technology Solar Street Light GESOLAR™SSL26 SAT is autonomous, without operation and maintenance costs. The only exception is for the light bulb which usually needs to be replaced every 8.000 hours. The reliability of this stand alone system is very high, even for safety applications, because their power supply is not subject to interruptions (no blackouts) as grid-powered street lights are. Furthermore, the particular assembly technique and configuration make this street light safe from vandal acts, stealing attempts, and from heavy atmospheric conditions such as strong winds, hailstorms, etc.

COMPOSITION

The new Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ SSL 26 SAT is composed by the following items, with power size of the photovoltaic modules depending on the geographic latitude of the installation site, as follows:

  • photovoltaic modules GES75 - 75W (for Mediterranean latitudes or less than 40°) or, alternatively, #. 2 photovoltaic modules GES90 - 90W (for latitudes higher than 40°);
  • solid-state electronic charge controller GENIUS 15 SAT equipped with microprocessor;
  • light-intensity modulator SAT;
  • maintenance-free sealed lead-gel battery, 12V - 115Ah each (GESB 100);
  • box for the batteries and the charge regulator, made of hot-painted galvanized steel, designed to resist against winds with speed higher than 150 km/h, to be assembled on pole top and complete with a hot-painted galvanized steel structure for modules supporting;
  • kit with cables, stainless steel screws and fittings for the module fixing;
  • hot-painted galvanized steel arm for the support of the fixture, complete with jaws for the fixing on the pole, stainless steel bolts, and with the possibility to turn it in any direction;
  • die-cast aluminum lighting fixture with poly carbonate lamp screen, complete with SOX 26W bulb (3700lm), bulb socket and 24V DC/AC electronic ballast for the bulb lighting.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Photovoltaic modules GES75 or GES90: made with high-efficiency polycrystalline silicon cells which are hot laminated together with a high-transparency hailstone proof tempered glass. They are designed for an average lifetime of more than 30 years. Programmable charge regulator GENIUS 15 SAT: it is an intelligent device designed with some special functions for the best control of the street light operation. It is provided with the following main functions:
1) Battery charge regulation, in order to guarantee the maximum storage of the energy produced by the photovoltaic modules, especially during winter time;
2) Battery discharge control with eventual advanced switch-off of the lamp whenever the battery, after prolonged bad weather time, will be low;
3) Night-time function for the automatic switching on of the lamp just few minutes after sunset (as a dark/light sensor will be used the photovoltaic module itself) and switching off some minutes after sunrise.

The GENIUS 15 SAT charge regulator is provided with an electronic protection against overload and short circuit. It is completely in solid state, that means without inside relays, and it is able to operate with currents up to 15A, limit value over the which an electronic protection will switch on automatically to protect the system. GENIUS 15 SAT can also operate under extremely hard temperature and moisture conditions and is also fitted with a temperature compensation device. It is also equipped with three LEDs for the signalling of the state of charge of the battery or of some system anomaly. The charge regulator GENIUS 15 SAT allows to store always the maximum solar energy available and to manage it intelligently. It controls and adjusts the charge and discharge of the battery according with the environmental and operating conditions, guaranteeing consequently its longer lifetime.

The new light-intensity modulator SAT, together with the intelligent charge regulator Genius 15 SAT allows the solar street light to light up all night long, throughout the year. In particular, during the winter time or prolonged bad weather, this modulator will reduce automatically the light intensity of the lamp according to the state of charge of the battery, in order to save precious energy for the nights. Just in case of exceptional prolonged bad weather the lamp will be automatically switched off to save energy. The Solar Street Light GE-SSL26 SAT will give always the priority of lighting for the evening hours when there is the main street traffic, so that it manages the energy to make it available in these particular times. SAT, designed for Solar Technology, is an absolutely new product for solar street-lighting applications. Upon request the light-intensity modulator SAT and the charge regulator GENIUS 15 SAT can be delivered together inside a the box to be installed in the inspection slotted hole of the pole, placed at about 1m above the ground. Thanks to this box the check of the electrical parameters of the solar street light or its eventual maintenance will be faster and easier. Storage battery: it is a slow-discharge type (115Ah in 100 hours), completely sealed, maintenance-free lead-gel battery. It can be placed in any position. The use of this battery together with the GENIUS 15 SAT charge regulator and the SAT device, allows the Solar Street Light GESOLAR™ 26 SAT an operating lifetime of several years.

DC/AC electronic ballast for the SSL 26W lamp, with 24V DC input voltage and stabilized high frequency output, suitable to feed the SOX bulb and to guarantee an average lighting lifetime more than 8000 hours. This ballast is generally placed inside the lighting fixture on a special support that allows a proper heat dissipation. Lighting fixture: usually it is installed at about 6-7m above the ground, generating a lighting cone of about 20m and an illuminance of about 21lux measured at 1m above the ground. Lamp: low-pressure sodium SSL 26W bulb (yellow light), with a luminous flow of 3700 lumen, placed inside the lighting fixture. Upon request is available another SAT solar street light configuration, equipped with a SSL 36W (6160lm) bulb.
